Freeing up space

I deleted items but my free space didn't change

iOS keeps deleted photos and videos in Recently Deleted for 30 days. To free the space now, open Photos › Albums › Recently Deleted, tap Select, then Delete All.

Can Clearly clear "System Data" or other apps' caches?

No. iOS doesn't allow any App Store app to do this, and apps that claim otherwise are misleading. System Data is managed by iOS and usually shrinks on its own. Restarting your iPhone and installing the latest iOS update help most. Clearly's Storage tab lists the settings that actually free space, such as Optimize iPhone Storage, Offload Unused Apps and trimming old Messages.

Why are sizes shown with "≈"?

iOS doesn't let apps read the exact file size of every photo, so Clearly estimates photo sizes and marks them with ≈. Video sizes are measured exactly when the video is stored on your iPhone.

The scan found nothing, or fewer photos than I expected

• Make sure Clearly has Full Access: Settings › Clearly › Photos › Full Access. With limited access, Clearly only sees the photos you selected.
• Photos stored only in iCloud are compared using their on-device previews. Tap Rescan on the Clean tab after they've synced.
• Similar shots are grouped when they're of the same moment, so photos of the same place taken on different days are treated as different photos.

I use iCloud Photos. Is deleting safe?

Deleting in Clearly works exactly like deleting in the Photos app: it syncs to your other devices, and items stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days everywhere.

Videos & Live Photos

Will compressing a video lower its quality?

"High quality" saves a 1080p HEVC copy that looks the same on a phone screen. "Balanced" and "Smallest" save more space at lower resolutions. Clearly shows the expected size first, and won't save a copy unless it's actually smaller. The original goes to Recently Deleted only if you choose that.

What happens when I convert a Live Photo?

Clearly saves a still photo with the same date, location, favourite status and albums, including your edits, then moves the Live version to Recently Deleted. You can recover it for 30 days.

Contacts

What gets kept when contacts are merged?

Clearly keeps the most complete card and adds the phone numbers, emails, addresses, websites, social profiles, dates and missing name details from the duplicates. Notes on the removed cards aren't copied. If you use iCloud Contacts, you can restore an earlier version at iCloud.com › Data Recovery.

What's free?

Scanning, reviewing and the Storage coach are always free, and your first 10 cleanups are free. Clearly Pro (weekly, monthly or lifetime) unlocks unlimited cleaning, compression and merging.

How do I cancel?

Open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Clearly Pro › Cancel Subscription, or tap Manage or cancel subscription in Clearly's settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. If you cancel during the free trial, you won't be charged.

How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, then open Clearly › Settings › Restore purchases.

How do I request a refund?

Payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.
